National Science Foundation Award #0518510

Photochemistry and Photophysics of Multiply Bonded Phosphorus Systems

Investigator(s): Miriam Simpson (PI)
Sponsor: Case Western Reserve University, OH 44106 2163684510
Start Date/Expiration Date 2005-09-01 to 2007-08-31 (amended 2005-08-01)
Awarded Amount to Date: $259,623
Abstract: In this project, funded by the Experimental Physical Chemistry Program of the Chemistry Division, Prof. Miriam C. Simpson of Case Western Reserve University and her graduate and undergraduate research students will investigate the photochemistry and photophysics of compounds containing multiply-bonded phosphorus atoms. The results of this research should help to inform chemists about these particular compounds' bonding characteristics, as well as provide a deeper understanding of multiple-bonding, in general. In addition, Prof. Simpson and her students will work towards identifying promising candidates of these unusual molecules, for the incorporation into devices. Prof. Simpson plans to continue to provide leadership at Case Western in its efforts to broaden participation by members of underrepresented groups in the sciences and in its efforts towards developing innovative graduate and undergraduate education programs.
